Creative Commons Licences
Creative Commons licenses provide a standardized way for creators to grant permission for the use of their work under copyright law. Here are the six different types of Creative Commons licenses, listed from most to least permissive:
- CC BY (Attribution): Reusers can distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, as long as they give credit to the creator. Commercial use is allowed.
- CC BY-SA (Attribution-ShareAlike): Similar to CC BY, but adaptations must be shared under the same terms.
- CC BY-NC (Attribution-NonCommercial): Reusers can use the material for noncommercial purposes only, with proper attribution.
- CC BY-ND (Attribution-NoDerivs): Reusers can copy and distribute the material in unadapted form for commercial use, with proper attribution. No derivatives or adaptations are allowed.
- CC BY-NC-SA (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike): Like CC BY-NC, but adaptations must be shared under the same terms.
-
CC BY-NC-ND (Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs): Similar to CC BY-ND, but only noncommercial uses are permitted.
