Read & Publish

Read & Publish Agreements

Also known as transformative agreements, they are a key strategy adopted by the Council of University Libraries (CAUL) in moving Australian Science towards Open Access. Over the last few years, the number of publishers that have signed a transformative agreement has gradually increased. This provides authors with greater access to publish their work open access.

Read & Publish Agreements that UniSQ authors can access can be found on the Council of Australian University Librarians guide.

How to use the CAUL guide

Accessing the CAUL guide provides authors with up-to-date information on which journals are available for open access publishing through these agreements. Here are tips for retrieving the relevant information:

  1. First, go to the alphabetical title list for all journals. Look for the journal title in this list.
  2. Note the publisher for that journal.
  3. Go to the tab for the publisher and look at the participating institutions. Is UniSQ listed? View the full title list for that publisher (just to check).
  4. Note if there is a discount on Article Processing Charges if the journal is not part of the agreement.
  5. Check out the types of articles that are covered by the agreement.
  6. Look at the Information for Authors section. This covers licensing of your work and submission processes.
  7. Note the details about using institutional email and institutional affiliation.
