Personal communications

  • Personal communications can include unpublished letters, emails and conversations.
  • Where letters, emails or conversations are published or archived use the Oxford referencing style formatting appropriate for the source, for example, book or website.
  • Permission from the person being cited is needed before you use their details.
  • Personal communications are not included in the bibliography as the reader cannot access the material.
  • Check with your Course Coordinator about when use of unpublished material is applicable.

Author First and Last Name, 'Title of Communication' [format], day month year.
