Public companies are listed on the Stock Exchange (see ASX Company List). They release information quarterly and are quite easy to research.
Private companies are not listed on the stock exchange and are not required to provide information publicly, which can make researching them difficult. The company's website, industry journals, newspaper reports and public interest publications (eg Choice) are the best places to find information about them.
Subsidiaries are companies with more than 50% of stock owned by the parent company. Parents are not required to report on their subsidiaries, so researching them is along the same lines as for private companies.
Annual reports can be located in databases including Business Source Ultimate and IBISWorld.
Case studies can be located in sources including Harvard Business School Select Case Study Collection and Emerald Insight
Current news about companies can be located in sources such as Choice and Newspaper Source Plus
