Children's and YA literature

Children's and YA literature

It is important to use contemporary and diverse literature in your classroom because it:

  • promotes a love of reading.
  • has many academic and personal benefits.
  • helps get your message across and makes learning fun.

When children see people like themselves represented in books they feel included and important. When children see people other than themselves, or people experiencing issues they have not experienced, they develop empathy.
