Finding journal articles

Why use journal articles?

Journal articles provide new research and ideas from experts in the field.

Assignment criteria may direct you to use journal articles, peer reviewed journal articles or journal articles from a specified date range.

Find journal articles

Try the following steps in Library Search to find journal articles.

1. Search the Library using keywords.

2. Go to Refine my results and select Articles.

3. Also select Available Online if you wish to only view online journal articles.

4. Select Apply Filters.

5. Review results for relevancy.

Tip: Keywords are words or concepts from your assignment question or topic. Refine my results can be found on the left hand side of the results page or via the filter icon on mobile.

Peer reviewed journal articles

Find peer reviewed journal articles

Peer-reviewed articles have been evaluated by experts in the field before being published.

If you are directed to use peer-reviewed articles or encouraged to use peer-reviewed articles, you can refine your results in library search to easily identify articles from peer reviewed journals. You can do this before you start searching or after you have search results.

1. Go to Refine my results

2. From the Show Only menu select Peer Reviewed Journals.

3. From the Resource Type menu select Articles

4. Select Apply Filters.

5. Use the Remember all filters option to lock this filter in place while you continue to search.

Tip: Sometimes editorials or reviews will appear in your search results. They are also part of peer reviewed journals however they are not peer reviewed articles. You can identify them by their title and they are generally shorter pieces of writing, without an argument or evidence and references.
