Databases

Why use databases?

Databases are focused collections of journal articles, ebooks, reports and media.

Use databases when:

  • your searching would benefit from a specific focus, for example, searching within the Informit database for Australian content
  • your assignment asks you to use a database
  • the database holds unique information, for example, Encyclopedia of Popular Music or Music Online: Classical Scores Library.

Databases are often good for a deep dive into specific subject areas. For most undergraduate students, library search will generally produce results relevant to research requirements.

Databases often hold research material that is specific to particular subject areas or disciplines. The search facility may often be located in different spots on the page but the process is generally the same. Please contact the librarian if you have any issues searching or accessing material in the databases.

Find relevant databases

The best database/s to use depends on your topic area and the type of information you need.

If you’re not sure where to start, begin by exploring a subject area’s recommended databases.

All databases can be searched using keywords and results can be refined using filters.  Sign in to access online resources using your UniSQ username and password.
